Chairman Statement

The year of 2007 will mark a unique point in China’s history. In 1978, after 28-years under the rigid constraints of the planned economy, China opened up to the free market and to the world, and the nature of business in China started to change. The following 28 years saw a major evolution of business management as companies strived to become stronger and more competitive, and to grow into world leading enterprises. Today, the executives of the Chinese companies, while delighted with their past accomplishments, are looking to the future in anticipation of the challenges that lie before them and SDR are standing beside them. We were established at the beginning of this century and grew alongside our clients to the position they are in today, and in 2007 we are more than ready to move forward with them.

Management practice in China has developed an approach that is most suitable for Chinese firms to operate, particularly during the recent period of market reform. The SDR team is no stranger to this change, and SDR has been there working with Chinese companies to improve the dynamism, the management ability, and to overcome the obstacles that they have faced. Through years of consultation, research, discussion, and implementation, SDR has been closely and continuously working with hundreds of clients, and in doing so have gained unique insights into management consulting; into what it takes to be a leading company in today’s marketplace. It is the determination, diligence and wisdom shown by Chinese executives as companies rise to the challenge of the international market that serves as a source of inspiration for SDR to strive to help them become the world’s top companies.

The global marketplace is changing rapidly so it’s important for a company to develop its own management practice and style. It is SDR’s observation that, after 2007, management in China will move away from following established business models and management styles, and practices will diversify, while the latest and most fashionable ideas will become less and less appropriate for any company striving to push into world leadership class. SDR believes that the experiences of the past 56 years in China have provided a solid foundation for innovation, where new ideas, new concepts and new practices will be created with ever growing openness and confidence. The future of Chinese business management is in the hands of the dilligent and professional men and women who carry out their commitments to become world leaders, and SDR, with its “Global experience and China practice”, is as always alongside our clients to help them innovate and implement for delivering world-class products and services.
